We all want our life to matter – to know we are here for a reason and living for a purpose. We want to leave a legacy. But what does that actually look like?

Legacy, can be defined as “the amount of money or property left to someone in a will”, but it's also “the long-lasting impact of particular events or actions that took place in the past or of a person’s life.“

It’s easy to operate from a scarcity mindset, and doubt what we have to give. Yet, as Christians we have been given so much.

2 Corinthians 8:9
You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

True legacy extends from a generosity mindset which begins with the recognition of what we’ve been given in Christ and operates out of gratitude.

We worship God and express gratitude for all he has done for us by honoring him with our money through tithing (giving 10% of our income). We aren’t required to give because of the law, but we are privileged to give because of the Gospel—because of his generous grace. And when we give to the church, these finances can then be collectively used to further God’s mission and purpose.

While our tithing can actually help others come to faith and give glory to God (2 Corinthians 9:12-13), legacy opportunities extend beyond our finances. When we share our faith with others and invite them to know Jesus because of how he changed our life, we create a legacy of believers. Think back to your own journey, someone is likely responsible for introducing you to Jesus – even if you’ve attended church since a child. Whoever brought you to church or told you about Jesus, left a legacy of faith.

When you live generously, you can do the same! By ordering your finances to be able to give in such a way that furthers God’s Kingdom, and making the most of every opportunity to share Jesus with others, God can use you to make an impact on generations to come.
