In many places around the world orphanages are still the primary means used to care for orphaned and abandoned children. Churches and charities in the United States often support orphanages in developing countries. Now there is a growing movement to replace institutionalization with foster care and permanent placement in families. Leading adoption experts and advocates from around the world, including Jed Medefind, President of the Christian Alliance for Orphans, discuss why early placement in families is so important for a child's development and emotional healing. Other contributors include: Ruslan Maliuta of Ukraine Without Orphans, Hazel Cedeño of Semillas de Vida, Costa Rica, and Onias Tapera of Christian World Outreach, Zimbabwe.
