Groups at CedarCreek are where life and faith come together. They're a place to belong, where you're accepted just as you are, and a place to connect with others who share your journey. Groups at CedarCreek are more than just meetings – they're a place to belong, where you can find real connection and build meaningful relationships.
We had the opportunity to sit down with a current Group Leader, Jes, whose group, Millennials and Margaritas, has been sharing their journey for the last few years.
Groups offer a space for authentic belonging, full of real conversation that is inviting, and a place where no one feels judged. Jes wanted a group where she didn't have to change who she was, but she desired a group that was "a little more intimate, a little more meaningful" than she had been experiencing on her own.
Her current schedule didn't offer her the time to do homework before group meetings, and she didn't have the capacity to add tasks that would make her feel unprepared for a Bible study group, so she was really just looking for a Group where she could "just show up."
At the time she began looking for a Group, there was nothing she wanted to try, and none where she felt like she found something that would work for her specifically in the season of life she was in.
So, she said yes to starting a Group, and with the goal and right heart posture, Jes set out to create just that. She saw a need for a group where her "main goal was to find a group of people where we all have the same beliefs," to bring people of all walks of life together to help them feel seen.
Jes didn't want a big group where she led the whole time; she wanted a small group where everyone was seen, and everyone got the chance to share.
Now, a few years into leading it, Jes describes her group as energetic, relatable, and a fun time.
She created a group and a space for women who didn't feel seen or felt like they didn't fit in. This space was not about doing homework, but about connecting and talking about what's going on in each other's lives. An opportunity to show up when you could, where they lift one another to pray over each other and to help each other feel connected.
As Jes tells us through her Groups story, it shows us the reason why we do groups. She encourages others to start a group because there's "someone looking for exactly what you want." It's a place for people to show up and be themselves, to meet them where they are.
