This past weekend we heard a Scary Story from the Bible and learned about King Saul, who tried to do things on his own rather than trusting in God. This ended up resulting in chaos rather than the purpose that results from living a faithFULL life. We all have times, just as Saul did, when we attempt to do life on our own, but the Good News is Jesus reconciled us to God through his death, even though we were once separated from him (Colossians 1:21-22).

Carve out some time today, to dig into this week's message and explore some of the key points using the discussion questions below. Discuss with a friend or your group, or simply take some personal time to journal your answers and consider what God is trying to teach you this week.

Discussion Questions:

  • Icebreaker: What is your favorite Halloween candy?
  • Why do people often try to do things their own way instead of trusting God?
  • Were you familiar with King Saul’s story in 1 Samuel 28:1-9? What do you learn from it?
  • How are you encouraged when you read Colossians 1:11-14 and Colossians 1:21-22?
  • What is one area of your life where you tend to be prideful? What is one way you can trust God with this part of your life.

Series Theme Verse for memory:

Matthew 6:33

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
