Bottom Line
Forgive One Another
Scripture
Read 1 John 4: 9-12
Devotion
Being the “grown-up” in a relationship often means we go first. We lead by example. We live out what it means to:
- Show self-control when emotions are bubbling over
- Practice patience when things are falling apart
- Set aside preferences to honor someone else
And yes ... ask for forgiveness too.
Our kids need to see what it looks like to work through hard things. When you overreact, follow up later and apologize. When siblings are in a battle of wills and compromise is nowhere in sight, step in with grace and be the coach that shows how to use words and actions respectfully.
We all miss the mark. But thanks to the goodness of our God, we have a rescuer who loved us enough not to leave us in our pit.
“This is real love – not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:10
Tonight, your children will learn that Jesus loves them, died for them and wants to be their friend forever. They are forgiven and can also forgive others.
This truth is for you too. How will you respond to God’s love today?
Prayer
Dear God, we pray each child will recognize their need for forgiveness and turn to you. May they be full of joy and thankfulness knowing they are forgiven and free in Jesus' name! Please give them the strength to forgive others. We pray children will make a personal decision to trust you and follow you. God may you give us what we need to love and lead them well. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
