Acts 20:28
“So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock - his church, purchased with his own blood - over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.”
Every life-giving church exists for one reason: to help people know Jesus and show his love to the world.
The book of Acts describes followers of Jesus as those who turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6). Wealth and prestige weren’t necessary. Rather, they moved through this world with a passion for Jesus, a posture of service, and a commitment to prioritize his mission above their own. They lived with unshakeable faith that the good work God had started in them would continue to grow until the day of Christ's return (Philippians 1:6).
That same movement continues today through us. Yes, you read that right. I said US.
God's mysterious plan has always been to include us in his family and his mission. That means when we say yes to taking a life-changing adventure with Jesus, our lives are far from ordinary.
It gives us a new direction and makes every conversation, act of kindness, and moment of humility opportunities to point people to him.
As a church family, we are in a season of celebrating all God has done and continues to do at CedarCreek. This celebration is not the end of the story. It's a call to keep going. We are part of an unstoppable movement of people living out their God-given purpose.
As a body of believers, as a church, let's live with eyes wide open to the opportunities around us. The world transforms when the church embodies the likeness of Jesus, who is always full of love, grace, and truth.
Our ordinary, everyday lives are the very place God wants to work through to make his extraordinary love known.
Discussion Questions:
Ice Breaker: What’s one way someone has shown you love this week that made an ordinary moment feel extraordinary?
How have you seen our church family live out the call to love God and love people in practical ways?
Read Matthew 22:34-40: How does knowing that God has invited you into his mission change the way you look at your schedule and see your daily life?
Think about a time when serving or showing love to someone else also deepened your own faith. What happened?
Reflect and Respond: What ordinary opportunity this week could become extraordinary if you approached it as part of God’s mission?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the opportunities around us. Make us a church that continues to reflect your love, grace, and truth. Use us to bring light and hope to our community. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Acts 17:6 (NKJV)
But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”
