Colossians 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

We all have a story. In mine, some chapters are filled with laughter and light, while others…well, let's say they're better left in the past. Maybe like me, you can look back on your personal history and ask yourself, "What was I thinking?"

But here's the truth worth holding onto: God isn't intimidated by the scary parts of your story. In fact, he specializes in meeting you right where you are and helping you rewrite it. This encounter is the beautiful part of grace. And grace doesn’t just rescue us; it calls us into relationship. It invites us to open our hearts to Jesus, who longs to be part of our story.

Inviting God, who we cannot see, into your life story may feel mysterious, supernatural, or even spooky to you. Or perhaps this topic sparks a sense of curiosity and a longing to dust off the cobwebs in your Bible and reignite some of your fire for Jesus.

Wherever you're at in your spiritual journey, take this wonder as an invitation from God to look into what's stirring inside of you. Push past skepticism and rediscover who he really is.

God's not done with your story. He's still rescuing, still redeeming, still writing new chapters. So, look ahead with hope, because the best parts of your story begin when you accept him as your savior and let him help you write it.

Discussion Questions:

Ice Breaker: What's a "lesson learned the hard way" moment from your life—something funny or serious? What did that lesson teach you?

How can we, as a church, respond to God’s warnings and live in a way that honors him in our community?

Read Daniel 5:1–31: Daniel reminded Belshazzar that although he knew what had happened to his father, he still refused to honor God (v.22–23). Are there areas in your life where you see what God is asking of you, but you've been hesitant to respond? What's holding you back?

How can you invite God to help you write or rewrite your story in a way that honors him?

Reflect and Respond: God "numbered the days" of Belshazzar's kingdom and brought his pride to an end (v.26–28). What would it look like for you to "number your days" wisely—to live with humility and dependence on God this week?

Prayer:
Father God, thank you for rescuing me from the scary parts of my story. I come to you today with a continued desire to follow your lead in my life. Please help me identify the places in my story where you've introduced people who might be skeptical about your identity, and enable me to guide them toward understanding the power of your presence. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Theme Verse:

Colossians 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
