Moving to a new city is exciting until the boxes are unpacked and you realize you don't actually know anyone yet. The routines that used to fill your week, the friends you'd grab dinner with, the people you'd text on a random Tuesday, aren't there anymore. Building that from scratch as an adult is harder than anyone tells you it's going to be.

If that's where you are right now, CedarCreek's adult groups are worth knowing about.

Groups Built for Real Connection

Our groups aren't small talk circles or structured curriculum sessions where you fill out a workbook and go home. They're designed around the idea that adults need genuine, honest community, people who actually know what's going on in your life and show up for you when things get hard.

Groups at CedarCreek are semester-based and organized around shared life stages and interests. Some are built for young adults navigating new careers and relationships. Some are designed for parents in the thick of raising kids. Others focus on specific topics like purpose, faith exploration, grief, or simply building friendships in a new city. There are groups that meet in homes, groups that meet in coffee shops, and groups that meet entirely online if that's what works better for your schedule right now.

The common thread is that they're all built for depth over surface level. You don't have to perform, impress anyone, or have your life together to show up. You just have to be willing to be in the room.

No church membership required. No faith background necessary. Just come as you are.

Why Groups Work Better Than Other Options

When you're new to a city, you'll find plenty of ways to meet people. Hobby clubs, professional networking events, fitness classes, they all offer some version of connection. But most of them stay at the surface. You see the same people every week and still don't really know them six months later.

What makes CedarCreek groups different is intentionality. They're specifically designed to go deeper than shared interests or professional goals. Members check in on each other between meetings. They show up when someone is going through something hard. They celebrate together when things are going well. That kind of community doesn't happen accidentally — it's something we've worked hard to build into how our groups function.

How to Find the Right Group

The best way to find a group is to browse our online group directory, which lets you filter by campus, life stage, interest, and meeting time. We'd recommend reaching out to a couple of group leaders before committing to one, getting a sense of the vibe and the people before you show up for the first time makes a real difference.

Our groups span all six of our Northwest Ohio campuses, Perrysburg, Findlay, Oregon, South Toledo, West Toledo, and Whitehouse, so wherever you've landed in the Toledo area, there's likely something close to home or work. And with online group options available, geography doesn't have to be a barrier at all.

If you want a little more context before jumping into a group, attending a weekend service first is a natural starting point. It's a low-pressure way to get a feel for the CedarCreek community before taking the next step. South Toledo meets Sundays at 9am and 11am, and West Toledo meets Saturdays at 5pm and Sundays at 8:30am, 10am and 11:30am.

Beyond Groups

Once you've found your footing in a group, there are plenty of other ways to build community at CedarCreek Toledo. Second Saturday Serve happens monthly and are one of the fastest ways we know to meet people quickly, something about working alongside someone toward something that matters accelerates friendship in a way that just hanging out doesn't.

GrowthTrack is another great next step. It's a free 4-week program that helps you figure out your purpose and how your specific gifts fit into the community. A lot of people who came to CedarCreek looking for friends end up finding a whole sense of direction they weren't expecting.

And if you're going through a harder season in the middle of your transition, a relationship that ended, a job that's not going well, something you haven't told many people about, Celebrate Recovery meets weekly at both Toledo campuses. It's honest, it's real, and it's a community that doesn't ask you to pretend everything is fine before you walk in.
