Weekend Series: Angry Jesus

Are you receiving the Kingdom of God like a child?

Last weekend, Lauren shared a message about when Jesus was angry with the Disciples for pushing away children.

Mark 10:13
One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

We see from Jesus' reaction in the remaining verses of this scripture that his anger toward the Disciples was used to remind them that those who have faith, like children in the next generation, will enter the Kingdom of God.

Mark 10:14-16
14When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." 16 Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

Reflect today on your relationship with Jesus and the last time you showed up with a childlike faith. Journal how you are, or aren't, approaching him to listen and learn and ask him to show you any generational divide you may be bringing into your earthly relationships. Prayerfully consider what generational investment God may be asking you to make and take a next step toward it.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come to you with childlike faith – trusting, believing, and resting in your love. Humbly, I'm asking you to show me ways I can learn from other generations, listening to what resonates with them. Help me see things from your perspective, bridging the generational divides in my relationships. If there is a next step you'd like me to take to give up my time and invest in the next generation, show me the path so I can take action on your prompting. In Jesus name, I pray, amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Hebrews 4:15
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
