Speaker:

Theme Verse:

Ecclesiastes 9:17 (NLT) Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king.

Bottom Line:

Heart work pays off.

Key Passages:

Luke 10:38-42 (NLT) As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me."

But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."

John 11:5-6, 17, 20-22, 38-41, 43-44 (NLT) So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days.

When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.

When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house. Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask."

"Roll the stone aside," Jesus told them.

But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, "Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible."

Jesus responded, "Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?"

So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus shouted, "Lazarus, come out!" And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, "Unwrap him and let him go!"

John 12:1-2 Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus—the man he had raised from the dead. A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him.

Additional Passages:

Proverbs 27:19; Proverbs 17:22; Proverbs 4:23
