New Testament Reading Plan: Romans 14
Communication can be so frustrating. Even when you’re doing your best to communicate with others, it sometimes feels like you are speaking in a different language. Instead of connecting, you're left feeling irritated and wondering what is wrong with other people, or yourself.
But it is exciting to remember that God created each of us uniquely, including our temperament.
Psalm 139:13-14
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
Once we realize we are all wired uniquely, grace and patience become a more natural response. We begin to appreciate how God created others differently from ourselves, rather than being frustrated by it.
Today, take the color test in the app if you haven’t already. Then think of three people—perhaps your spouse or best friend, a colleague, or that one person who always frustrates you. Invite them to take it as well, and discuss what you learn.
If you had to guess, what color do you think they are? What are the benefits and what are the challenges of their communication styles? Praise God for your uniqueness and theirs.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Father, I confess that I don’t always think other’s uniqueness is so marvelous. Honestly, sometimes it really frustrates me. Today, help me to appreciate the uniqueness each person brings to the situation and respond with grace and love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”
