Summer is often seen as a time to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. With school out, kids and parents enjoy a break from homework, early mornings, and the rush to get out the door. And perhaps best of all, we’re free from the routine of packing lunches.

During summer, we are intentional about taking time off of work so we can vacation with family. We spend more time doing the hobbies we love. We relish outdoor barbecues, bask in the sun at the beach, and savor refreshing ice cream.

Summer is refreshing! But do you feel refreshed?

For many, summer has become just as busy as the rest of our year. So, as we leave summer and head into another busy season, how do we find a little refreshment in daily life?

Here are 7 ways we can find refreshment in our daily lives:

  1. Time with God: Start your day connecting with God. Read the Bible and reflect on it. Think about how the truths from it impact your life and how you can apply it to your day. Also, talk to God. Share your worries and concerns with him, and thank him for his plan for your life. Reading the Bible and talking to God can ground us, provide guidance, and remind us of our purpose.
  2. Nature Breaks: Step outside—even if it’s just for a few minutes. Feel the sun on your skin, listen to birdsong, or take a walk in a nearby park. Spending time in nature has a way of rejuvenating us..
  3. Creative Outlets: Engage in a creative activity that brings you joy. Whether it’s painting, writing, playing an instrument, or cooking, these moments of self-expression can be invigorating.
  4. Connect with Loved Ones: Reach out to friends or family. A heartfelt authentic conversation and shared laughter can lift your mood and remind you that you’re not alone. A church group or service team are great places to connect with others too.
  5. Gratitude Practice: Take a moment to reflect on what you’re grateful for. Write down three things you appreciate each day. Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant.
  6. Unplug: Disconnect from digital devices periodically. Set boundaries for work-related emails and notifications. Setting boundaries with digital devices is essential because It allows us to recharge and be present in the moment.
  7. Evaluate Commitments: Regularly assess your commitments. Are they aligned with your values and goals? If not, consider taking them off your schedule and look for other opportunities that align better with the goals and passions God has given you.

So, as we bid farewell to summer, let’s carry its refreshing spirit forward, finding moments of renewal amidst life’s busyness
