Grace Over Grit: Saying Yes Before You Quit

Weekend Series: In God's culture, quitting isn't the headline.

Culture and data tell us that today is the day we throw in the towel. Quitters' day is upon us.

If you haven't heard of it before, Quitters Day is the second Friday of the new year, often marking the moment when motivation slips, and people begin letting go of the resolutions they made just a few weeks ago.

Culture might label today as the day we quietly decide, maybe next year. But Scripture tells a very different story about what happens when resolve weakens and energy runs low.

If we are being intentional about saying Yes to God, then today, on “Quitters Day,” let's hear what He thinks on the subject.

God expects weariness—but He doesn't shame it.
"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

God is not surprised by our weariness. He doesn't roll His eyes when we feel tired, discouraged, or behind. Instead, He meets us right there. He doesn't demand more effort before offering help, but He invites us closer.

Weariness is not a weakness to hide—it's a reason to come to Him. If you're feeling weary, allow space for rest and receive the grace available to you. Keep going! Or even restart if you need to.

God values perseverance over perfection.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

This promise of an abundant harvest isn't tied to flawless follow-through or perfect consistency. It's tied to continuing, not giving up, even when progress feels slow or unseen.

God cares more about faithfulness than intensity.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.Joshua 1:9 NIV

God honors a courageous heart. When we become discouraged, it's easy to throw in the towel. But when we refocus our discouragement by looking toward the strength God offers, this obedience points us back in the right direction.

A daily yes, offered in a simple prayer, can be enough to help you keep going. Showing up with faith and trust—especially when motivation is low—matters deeply to Him.

God makes room for restarting.
The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. - Proverbs 24:16

Falling isn't failure. Struggling doesn't disqualify you. Grace makes room for getting back up—again and again. Staying down is optional. What choice are you going to make today?

Saying Yes to God was never about intensity or perfection. It has always been about trust.

If “Quitters Day” whispers, You’re already behind. You’ve missed too much. What’s the point now?—God speaks something better.

In God's culture, quitting isn't the headline. Grace, perseverance, and showing up again—especially when it's hard—are always available.

Today doesn't have to be the day you quit.

It can be the day you rest—and say Yes again.
