The Relational domain in Your Journey is all about your approaching your relationships from Godly perspective.
Let's face it, doing life with people is messy business - in fact relationship difficulties fall into the top five stressors of a person's life. But at the same time, we were not meant to do life alone.
Genesis 2:18
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
Whether its a spouse or friend, the relationships we build have the potential to enrich our life greatly. In this dimension, we will be exploring how to build these in a God-honoring way, so your soul can reap the benefits of relationship.
Relationships can definitely be challenging, but as you work through this material, we pray they will become something significantly enriching and lifegiving.
Here are some ideas to help you begin this journey of honoring God with your relationships.
- Commit to working through this material slowly and steadily. Read the articles and watch the series in the Learn Tab, and begin to understand how to approach all of your relationships in a God-honoring way.
- Carve out some time to evaluate what you value most in a friendship/relationship.
- Have you ever considered the relational dimension to be part of your Godly walk? Why or why not? How do you think relationships can impact your soul (thoughts and emotions)?
- What values do you hold that must be represented in the friendship? Examples include but are not limited to honesty, integrity, kindness, generosity, etc.
- What values and virtues do you bring to a relationship? Praise God for this! Where you fall down when it comes to relationships? Are you prone to being judgmental, gossiping, or lashing out in anger. Acknowledge this and ask God to begin to set you free in this area.
- When we consider that we are the sum of the five people we are closest to, which of your friends demonstrates at least three of these virtues. Which one do they exemplify?
- On a scale of 1-5 rate the relationships with your spouse, siblings, family, extended family, colleagues? Are they life giving and challenging you to grow into a better version of yourself?
3. Pray - Do you have a habit of praying for your friends and family? Perhaps its only when they are struggling, or for those you "like". Make a list of people to pray for and set a day during the week to pray for each. For example: Mom, Dad, brother/sister, aunts uncles, cubical mate at work, person you serve with.
Then set a day of the week to pray for each. For example:
- Monday: Parent's and spouse's parents
- Tuesday: Siblings
- Wednesdays: Extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc)
- Thursday: Colleagues and supervisor
- Friday: People you serve with at church
- Saturday: Your five closest friends
- Sunday: Bonus - Pray for someone who is irritating or challenging
