Well, we are officially two months into this internship.
PRAISEEEE THE LORRRDDDD!!!!!!!
And honestly, so much has happened already.
I've learned, I've laughed, I've been stretched, I've had moments where I felt incredibly grateful...
And moments where I've asked God some very real questions.
So if you stay with me for a little bit, I think this might be worth reading.
Maybe you'll relate to it.
Maybe it'll encourage you.
Or maybe, somehow, God will use it to challenge your heart the same way He has been challenging mine.
When I first came to CedarCreek as an Arts intern, I knew I was going to learn about worship, production, leadership, and everything that happens behind the scenes of a weekend service.
What I didn't know was how much God would teach me about ministry outside of the stage.
There were moments when I honestly didn't feel seen. I felt like I didn't quite fit in. I would look around and see people receiving bigger responsibilities and opportunities, while I often found myself doing things that, in my eyes, felt small and very important at the time.
And if I'm honest, that started frustrated me.
I began asking God, ''Why doesn't my process look like everyone else's? Why does it feel like I'm moving slower? Why am I here doing the small things while other people seem to be stepping into bigger ones?''
At some point, I realized I wasn't fully enjoying what God had already placed in front of me.
One day, I went to a park because I needed time alone with God. I brought my Bible, sat down, and started reading. There was this girl sitting by herself to my left, but at first, I didn't think much about it.
Then I came across Matthew 20:26
''Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.''
And in that moment, I felt like God was speaking directly to my heart.
Maybe my process looks different because God is teaching me what it actually means to serve.
Not just to serve when people notice.
Not just to serve when I'm trusted with something important.
Not just to serve when I'm on stage, holding a guitar, or doing something that feels significant.
But to serve when no one is watching.
To serve when no one says thank you.
To serve when the assignment feels small.
To serve because Jesus served.
That moment completely changed the way I saw what God was doing in me. And then I looked again at the girl sitting beside me.
I grabbed my Bible, stood up, gathered some courage, and walked over to her. I shared with her how trusting Jesus can completely change your life, and reminded her that God was waiting for her with open arms, that He still loved her, and that nothing she had done could make Him stop loving her.
I walked away realizing something I had been missing,
Maybe God wasn't overlooking me at all.
Maybe He was forming me.
My process may look different from the people around me, but I'm learning that different does not mean behind.
I may not always understand the pace, but I can trust the One who is leading it.
I know now that I am walking at the pace God wants me to walk, and that is enough.
Because I think God is far more interested in teaching me His heart than in showing me how quickly I can move forward.
The more I walked through this internship, the more I realized that ministry is so much bigger than a stage.
Sometimes ministry looks like worshipping in front of hundreds of people. And sometimes it looks like sitting in a park, opening your Bible, letting God correct your heart, and then walking over to one person because He placed them in front of you.
Both matter.
And I never want to become so focused on where I'm going that I miss what God is doing in me along the way.
And if there is one thing I can truly say after these first two months, it is this: God does not make mistakes when He places the people you need most close to you. Sometimes, they become a little piece of His heart here on earth, reminding you of His love, His kindness, and His faithfulness in the moments you need it most.
So... I'll see you next month.
I already cried while writing this blog, so I'm going to dry my little tears now and keep serving my Father with everything I have.
Until next time.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26
