Is there a relationship in your life that feels strained by conflict because, in recent conversations, you've turned words into weapons?

If so, you've probably stored up anger, insecurities, fear, and other toxic memories from these battlefields.

These hurtful and harmful conversations can leave a lasting weight on our hearts. If we're not careful, stored words can build barriers in our relationships and shape how we see other people in our lives.

When we are on an adventure with Jesus, we don't need to be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8). Instead, we can choose to see conflict as a starting place for us to move forward better.

We can do this by preparing our hearts and practicing humility. Humility disarms our weaponized words. It helps us show up differently and acknowledge when we've been wrong. Without bringing hurt from past conversations, we can choose to store helpful and loving words filled with grace, like the ones we receive from our heavenly Father.

Hebrews 4:16
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

God's love for us and the beauty his grace offers are immeasurably more than we can imagine (Ephesians 3:20). In that grace, we can find healing and strength for our hearts, which allows us to rebuild the weaponized words we've been holding on to. Not because we've done anything to earn it, but because it's his grace that saves us (Ephesians 2:8).

Let's communicate, move forward boldly and humbly, with hearts focused on being peacemakers in our relationships and in our conversations with others.

Discussion Questions:
Ice Breaker: What's one quality that makes someone an easy person to talk to about difficult topics?

Why do you think so many people avoid hard conversations, even when a relationship matters to them?

Read John 21:15-17: After Peter's failure, Jesus chose to restore him instead of rejecting him. What stands out to you about Jesus' conversation with Peter?

When a relationship becomes strained, do you tend to avoid the conversation, rush into it, or carefully prepare for it? Why?

Reflect and Respond: What relationship might look different if you chose connection, understanding, and restoration over being right?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come to you humbly to confess that I have used my words as weapons more times than I can count. Thank you for loving me and giving me the chance to grow, learn, and transform from the life I knew before our journey began. Please fill my heart with humility and words that show I care for the person receiving them, so that my conversations can reflect your immense love for everyone I meet. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:
Ephesians 4:15
Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
