Matthew 5:9
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Conflict can quickly shift our focus. Before long, we may care more about being right than being reconciled. We defend our position, replay what the other person said, and build our case for why they should make things right.

But Jesus calls us to something different: to be peacemakers.

That doesn't mean avoiding hard conversations or pretending everything is fine. Peacemaking takes courage. It means choosing reconciliation when walking away would be easier. It means looking for restoration instead of keeping score. And it means remembering that the person on the other side of the conflict matters to God.

Why do we pursue peace when it can be so difficult? Because Jesus pursued us first.

Because Jesus pursued us first.

He didn't wait for us to get everything right before he moved toward us. He stepped into our brokenness, offered forgiveness, and made a way for us to be reconciled to God. So when we choose peace, we reflect the heart of the One who has already done the same for us.

As you reflect on this week, think about situations where you are fighting with someone instead of fighting for them. Think about a relationship you have where winning the argument has become more important than protecting the relationship. Maybe God is inviting you to take a step toward peace this week, even if that step feels uncomfortable.

Consider whom God may be inviting you to pursue peace with instead of fighting with.

Even though you aren’t able to control how someone else responds, you can choose what you bring into the relationship. Today, choose to pursue peace. Not because it's easy, but because it looks like Jesus.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to seek peace in my relationships and to value connection over conflict. Give me the courage to take steps toward reconciliation, even when it is difficult. Guide my heart to show love and understanding, following your example. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.
